While watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer last night, I received a text from a friend, the kind you have to read a few times as you try to decipher the message. Unsure if I cracked the code, I hit the pause button on the remote, grabbed the phone, and called my buddy's cell.
In this case, my friend needed me to lend an ear, so I listened attentively without any judgment while offering support.
Now into Wednesday’s early evening hours, taking a brisk walk around the neighborhood, the sight of a runner dressed in yellow and black sparked a thought relating to the experience mentioned above, which reinforced the importance of listening in my mind.
You never know what someone is going through, so when a friend reaches out in this context, I make a concerted effort to find the time to listen, be encouraging, and to be fully present. That can make all of the difference in the world for somebody, especially during this time of social distancing.
After crystallizing that lesson into my journal, it was time to resume my walk. Before I got moving, I felt inspired to share this entry. As soon as I published it, mother nature hit me with a short burst of air that almost sent my hat flying. LOL!
It's windy in the Big Apple today!
Stay warm, safe, and enjoy your evening! 😊
