Impromptu Visit to the Coffee Shop

Upon completing my workout this evening, I decided to go inside a café to grab a cup of joe and spend 20 minutes perusing through my LinkedIn feed. So after walking down a ramp only a block away from the gym, I entered the tower’s coffee shop and was soon standing at the front counter waiting patiently to place my order.

Seconds after ordering a hot cup of coffee, all of a sudden, I had a taste for some iced coffee instead, so I quickly changed my order, buying a tall glass with a splash of almond milk and a single packet of Splenda.

After getting my cold beverage, I slid off to the left side of the counter to let the person standing in line behind me order, then started looking around for a nice place to sit. When I spotted an open workstation towards the far end of the café, I went over to claim it before someone beat me to the punch!

On the short walk over, I spoke to a few of my friends, two of whom kindly invited me to join them for a 3-mile run alongside the Hudson. Since I just finished working out, I politely declined and told them that I would run with them tomorrow morning.

Once I got myself situated at the workstation and took a few sips of my coffee, I reached into my bag and pulled out my Microsoft Surface Pro so that I could log in to my LinkedIn account. Then, I began checking my news feed and reading a couple of your posts.

Those who follow me regularly on this platform know that random motivational thoughts, a sudden pleasant feeling I get inside, or something I see in my environment, any of which captures my imagination, often inspire me to write and take pictures.

So while reading an article, feeling energized from my recent workout, combined with the lovely ambiance of the room, you guessed it, I felt like writing!

Usually, I capture my thoughts into the journal app on my phone; however, I chose to embrace this moment and go with the flow since I was already working on my Surface Pro.

Now with the smooth sound of classical music playing in my ear and with nothing in particular that I wanted to write about, I slowly placed my fingers on the poppy red keyboard, knowing that the words to a story would magically appear in my head.

Then, in the blink of an eye, something I listened to by one of my favorite motivational speakers over the weekend flashed in my mind, and I began summarizing the message in terms of what it meant to me for future reference.

I was all done typing ten minutes later and proceeded to put my computer back in my backpack and headed for the exit. On the walk to the parking garage to pick up my car, I opened the journal app on my phone and began recapping this latest experience.

By the time I made it to my SUV, I had finished capturing my thoughts, and after reading what I just wrote, I thought it would be cool to post—the end.

I hope you enjoyed our Thursday evening coffee break together, which turned in this lighthearted and spontaneous post.

Have a relaxing evening. 😊
