I was standing on the corner of W 65th St and Amsterdam Ave, getting ready to make my way inside the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, when out of the blue, a conversation with a friend from earlier in the week popped into my head. The kind of thought-provoking discussion that made me pause and think about a situation from an entirely different perspective.
As a result of this talk suddenly resurfacing in my mind, I knew that I should give it some extra thought.Admittedly, before the conversation mentioned above reappeared in my head, I had no idea what I would read, write or evening ponder during my time in the library.
All I knew is that I just wanted to be in this quiet place full of books and history, in large part due to the calming effect spending time in the library always has on me.
On top of that, when I am reading a printed book, there’s something about flipping through the pages and using a yellow highlighter to highlight sentences that resonate with me, which I find energizing!
Feel free to call me old-fashioned if you wish, but I still value the library experience and plan on making at least one trip to a #NYC public library each month for the remainder of the year.
Now back to the story. Lol!
So during this particular visit, I ended up handwriting my thoughts into my vintage handmade leather journal for the first 30-minutes; then, I roamed around the drama collection section to find a book that piqued my interest. After identifying such a book, I sat at a table and proceeded to read it for the ensuing 45-minutes.
Once my reading, writing, and thinking time appetite was completely satisfied, I exited the library and began making my way towards the parking garage to pick up my car.
On the stroll over to the garage, I came upon several murals, a few of which grabbed my attention. So, of course, I stopped to exam some and snapped a couple of pics in the process.
Interestingly enough, it took me nearly 30-minutes to make it to the parking garage because I kept stopping and thoroughly enjoying the beautiful art scattered on the buildings all around the block.
Indeed, it was a lovely walk; and by the time I made it to my SUV, I was still feeling just as relaxed as I was sitting in the library. Love it!
Well, friends, that does it for this spur-of-moment midweek post. I hope you felt the same sense of calmness as I did writing it, right after you've read it and reviewed the pictures to go along with it. 😊
Have a pleasant evening.
